Create PDF of Submission template

Jadu Central provides functionality to generate a file with the submitted form data to create a PDF copy of a submission. This process takes a PDF document as a base from which copies containing the customer's submission data are created.

The PDF file should contain form fields to be filled with customer's data. PDFs like this can be created using a tool such as Adobe® Acrobat® Professional.

tip

Depending on your version of Acrobat® you can have some quick success setting up your PDF form by clicking either Convert An Existing Document, or Scan A Paper Form in the Getting Started window, or by opening an existing PDF and choosing Forms > Run Form Field Recognition or Create.

  1. Open a form, and navigate to Templates in the top navigation bar.
  2. Click the Create Template button. A window will open, asking which type of action we want to create a template for.
  3. Select Create PDF of Submission under the "PDF Generation" section, and click the Next button.
  4. Enter a title and click the Next button.
  5. Select a previously uploaded PDF file, or click Upload new PDF File to upload a file, then click the Next button.
  6. You must now map fields found in the PDF to data collected by your form. The left hand field names are from your PDF. You can map a question, variable or logic formulae to each one. Alternatively, enter manual text by typing it into the search box for the field and pressing the return key. You will need to complete the mapping for all pages in your PDF. You can navigate between pages by using the Next and Previous buttons or by using the select boxat the top of the window.
  7. Click the Save and Finish button to create the template.

Mapping checkbox and radio button fields

When using checkboxes and radio buttons in generated PDFs, care must be taken to ensure that the PDF form options are correctly configured.

tip

While the examples use the option label, the option value could be used instead providing they are consistently used. When mapping radio button or checkbox PDF field options:

  • [question name] will equate to the option value
  • [question name] - Label will equate to the label value

For clarity, imagine that we are creating a question of each type with:

  • Question text: "Please select an option"
  • Four options with labels: "Option 1", "Option 2", "Option 3" and "Option 4"

To map the Jadu Central form to the PDF form, we would:

  1. In Jadu Central, create a form page including the question.
  2. In Adobe Acrobat Pro, create a corresponding question in the PDF using the appropriate component. Ensure that each option is configured according to the table below. the Name value and the Option - Export Value value are set as shown in the table below.
  3. In Jadu Central, map the form field to the PDF field in the Create PDF of Submission template.

This will now ensure that when the form is submitted, the field options on the PDF will be populated accordingly.
