Image manager

Available from Central 4.2 upwards.

Image manager is used for managing and maintaining images used across Jadu Central and Jadu Central Galaxies. Images can be used within Jadu Central using the Image Library.

Supported file types

Jadu Central supports the following image file types:

Accessing Image manager

Image Manager is available from the Publishing menu.

Access to Image Manager and Bulk image uploads is managed within Admin privileges.

Adding new images

New images of can be added using:

  • Using the Image Library or New Image button within Image Manager for individual images.
  • Using the Bulk upload tab within Image Manager for up to 50 images at a time.
note

The file upload size is 24Mb by default, and is the same as the maximum file size that can be uploaded to Downloads. This can be changed on request.

Uploading images to the Image Manager

To upload a new image:

  • Use the New image button.
  • Add the Image, ensuring it is the correct file type and doesn’t exceed the maximum size allowed.
  • Complete the Image details and Save.

Uploading images using Bulk Upload

  1. Drag and drop, or press ‘Browse Files’, to upload up to 50 images from your device that you’d like to upload, ensuring they are the correct file type and don’t exceed the maximum size allowed.
  2. Press ‘Import’. Images uploaded using Bulk upload, are added to the Unprocessed Image category until the mandatory image details are completed.

There is a maximum of 50 images per bulk upload and the total file size must not exceed the upload limit for your site. Default upload limit is 24Mb.

Unprocessed images

Unprocessed images are images that do not have all the information required assigned to them, such as title, alt text and category. This usually happens when images have been bulk uploaded, or when an image has been added using the Add button available in the Image Library, but without the mandatory fields being saved.

note

Unprocessed images will not be available for selection from the Image library.

Accessing unprocessed images

To view all unprocessed images:

  1. Go to the Image Manager
  2. Go to Actions and choose “Show all Unprocessed images”

To make an unprocessed image available for use within the Image Library:

  1. Edit an image
  2. Complete all the mandatory fields
  3. Save the changes

Modifying images

There are cropping tools available for images within the Image Manager.

To modify an image:

  1. Edit the image
  2. Press the crop button. A selection box will appear.
  3. Use the drag handles, move, or zoom buttons to modify the image.
  4. Press the ‘Save’ button to save the changes.

The modified image will be updated within the Image Manager and everywhere the image used.

Finding images

There are a number of ways to filter, sort and identify images within the Image Manager.

Sorting

  • Size (smallest to largest, largest to smallest)
  • Title (A–Z, Z-A)
  • Date uploaded (newest to oldest, oldest to newest)

Filtering of images

  • File name / File title
  • Tags
  • Categories

Filters can be combined. For example, if you wanted to find images of black crows and blackbirds, you could filter for all images with the file name / file title ‘black’, tag ‘bird’ in the category ‘animals’.

Identification of images

Available from the Actions menu:

  • ‘Identify Duplicate images’: These are images with the same filename
  • ‘Identify unnamed images’: These are images without titles
  • ‘Show all images’: Show all images. This will include Unprocessed images.
  • ‘Show all Unprocessed images’: These are images without mandatory fields completed, which aren’t available to users within the Image Library until they are processed.

Image usage

To find out where an image is used:

  1. Select the image
  2. Choose Image usage from the Image Actions menu.

You will be taken to the Image usage report for your chosen image.

Viewing an image

To get the Live link of an image:

  1. Select the image
  2. Choose View live from the Image Actions menu.

You will be taken to a new tab showing your chosen image with the URL available in the address bar.

Deleting an image

To delete an image:

  1. Select the image
  2. Choose Delete from the Image Actions menu.
  3. Confirm deletion and press Delete.

Once an image is deleted, it will no longer be available to use. There is no option to retrieve the image.
